Yes,indeed, ladies and gentlemen, and there they were in all of their? glory, trotting out on to the basketball court doing a your-guess-is-as-good-as-mine routine.
Pitted against them was the Brother Rice H.S.faculty. No contest.
Isaac Guillory came out in a pair of knee-knocker type wheat trousers and a green sweat shirt with "Guantanamo Flash" carefully written across the front. But don't get
me wrong; the kid really looked great, but you'll never get him to believe that.
Then Tommy Doody came dribbling out wearing a pair of blue cut-offs and a blue & white stripped shirt and gym shoes. Denny Conroy bounded onto the court in a pair of blue bell-bottoms, blue shirt and bare feet.
Unfortunately, Lenny Kerley and Jim Fairs couldn't make it,but Jymm did stop by after the game. Last, But not least,Jim Pilster came out. He had on an orange stripped shirt under a blue shirt, really neat argyle socks, gym shoes and a pair of
Valentine's day shorts, and a cowboy hat, can't forget that. Reluctantly tagging behind him was Tu, his little Chihuahua.
Since there were only four of the guys on the court, managers Bob Monaco and Fred Bohlander, The Trolls ( Chicago area band) Ken and Clark, junior lawyer Marv, and occasional Road Manager, Jack Doody gave a hand.
Jerry G.Bishop from WCFL Radio, gave a marvelous play-by-play of the game...he called Ken Troll "the guy with the beard. "But,honestly, the true piece de resistance was the emergence of Maurie Bach, who came racing onto the court, ran into one of the players on the opposite team, let out a shriek, proceeded to fall to the ground in agony still having
enough breath to blow the whistle around his neck, and yell "Foul!" The Shame's got 3 extra shots.
All the Shames were credited with baskets, but Pilster came out on top with 22 points, and Isaac made 6, including the final winning point. Final score,48 to 44; The Shames won, of course.
We (including Patti Tregler,Tarey Jones,Debbie Witek, and yours truly Lynn Janutka) had a fantastic time, especially since we got out of work for the game. |
