I remember that I wanted to write a summer love song...but it was winter. I also wanted to feel that I was looking at love as it was for others...not just my view from the perspective of my relationships...
...so, I booked a flight to Ft. Lauderdale, and watched the couples on the beach. It was ironic; there I was sitting completely alone on the balcony with a guitar, watching the young lovers walk on the beach. The most poignant time was at, and just after, sunset...when the stars came out and the temperature dropped, and the colors of the sunset were in the sky. That's when I finally wrote the lines 'just the way things are, can be reflected in a star...'.
It seems that much of my inspiration comes from the sky. One day I was watching a sunset and noted that jet trails high in the atmosphere looked like 'a scratch in the sky...'
I can't tell you how many times someone's said 'I met my wife at your performance at...' or 'It Could Be We're in Love was the theme music for my first love...it was like the cinescore to my life!!!' . . . and I am so gratified.
